Amateur Radio

Interest in packet radio and its use of TCP/IP led me to getting my license. Once I got my ticket (N3NYN), I started tinkering with APRS.

APRS Stuff

Since I'm a UNIX fan, I also run Xastir to do all my APRS tracking. It's an open source application that use X/Motif. It has lots of cool map options.

GPS

At last count I was up to 6 GPS systems.
  1. A Garmin III plus and a Garmin Trex Vista for handheld navigation.
  2. Two Motorola units used for Pulse per Second (PPS) timing for Network Time Protocol (NTP).
  3. Two Motorola units used for APRS

Truck Tracker

One of the fun things to do with APRS is track were my Jeep GC might be. Hopefully I'm not to far away. I have an old Motorola Six Gun GPS module under the back seat that is tied to a TNC that is connected to my Kenwood.
