I'm fortunate to live within the service area for the Verizon FIOS offering. Having Fiber to the Home (FTTH) has provide an excellent and very reliable service from Verizon. A large portion of the fiber path is buried and the installation is very clean.
Computers
The data collection on power usage has been ey opening on the amount of power that I've used running servers in the hose 24/7. It's amazing how much power gets consumed running a few servers, switches, monitors, and printers. Not to mention, TVs, steaming boxes, Xboxs, and lot of other tech gadgets. Over the years I've tried to recuse my usage and set sleep schedules to reduce usage. A big win has been to replace spinning disk for SSDs. Currently, the truescale NAS that handles system backs and file sharing is the largest power consumer. IT currently a RaidZ2 of 7- 6TB drives. I need to plan a refresh to fewer drives of higher capacity.
