Home Automation
Home Assistant
After many years and lots of expense on doing home automation, I've settled, for now, of Home Assistant. IT's been fantastic at bringing together both mainstream and niche products together int a clean centralized system interface. It's also allowed me to wrangle all the temperature probes and power monitors together. But the most important is that the lighting management of rate house is now clean and responsive. I only have a dozen so lights and outlets under Z-wave control, but having Home assistant ate the hart lets me control them in the fashion that I like. I have light to trigger on sunrise and sunset, Strict time intervals, as well as PIR triggered. This is easy to do in HA and can be done primarily through a clean GUI interface.
I've also had an ongoing project to instrument the house to temperature and humidity. Much of it is integrated int HA, but I also have a bunch of legacy measurements from sensor scattered around the house.
The goal is to determine the affects of adding extra attic insulation, insulating the air ducts, upgrading some door seals, and various other home improvements. In addition to temperature, I'm also tracking relative humidity in the wine cellar. Power measurements are also being monitored current transformers install in the electrical panels to keep a handle on power usage and power quality.
